Good nutrition has been preached to us since infancy.  Eat your vegetables, drink your milk so you can grow big and strong, and the ever popular clean your plate 'cause kids are starving in China!  Eating your veggies is a good idea and nothing tastes as good as a cold glass of milk with a piece of chocolate cake.  I'm here to tell you that there are not that many kids in China going without food!  Cleaning your plate is not a good idea anymore unless you get a lot of exercise along with it.

Eating good wholesome foods in small amounts several times a day is the best option for stabilizing your blood sugar and helping your body digest food properly.  One large meal a day can make you miserable right after and feeling less than your best the other parts of the day.  Most nutrition experts say to shop the outer aisles of the food store. That is where the meats, veggies and dairy products are while the middle aisles have more of the processed convenience foods.  In a busy household where all the adults work outside the home it may be hard to get the good stuff in your body and easier to eat fast-food or convenience foods.  We all know this isn't healthy but what do you do?

Tips for making healthy meals

when cooking meat cook more than enough and freeze individual servings for quick meals

use frozen veggies instead of canned so you don't over cook food that won't be eaten

bake several potatoes so you can have some for another day when you are in a hurry

always have fresh fruit on hand and cut up fresh veggies so they are easy to eat in a rush

Teach everyone in the house how to fix at least one full meal. This way everyone can help out when needed and no one will ever be hungry.

I did toy with the idea of making a cookbook. The recipes were to be the routine ones: how to make dry toast, instant coffee, hearts of lettuce, and brownies. But as an added attraction, at no extra charge, my idea was to put a fried egg on the cover. I think a lot of people who hate literature but loved fried eggs would buy it if the price was right.

More die from too much food than too little.

The pig and the chicken were on their way to breakfast, trying to decide what to have. When the chicken said "Let's have ham and eggs." The pig then replied, "That's fine for you, it's a small donation on your part, but it's a total sacrifice for me."
